KENYON COLLEGE – GAMBIER, OH

Kenyon College invites applications for a definite two-year visiting position in Classics, effective July 1, 2011. In the second year of the appointment, the department will hire for a tenure-track position, and the successful candidate is encouraged to apply.

The teaching load is five courses per year. Candidates must be qualified to teach both Latin and Greek at all levels, introductory, intermediate and advanced. The successful candidate will likely teach intermediate Latin both years. As a result, we are particularly interested in persons who can demonstrate effectiveness in teaching a group of students who have learned Latin in a variety of different settings. In addition, the teaching load will include courses in translation from the department’s regular offerings as well as at least one class of the candidate’s own devising. The candidate’s primary research interest should be in Latin literature. A Ph.D. in hand is preferred, but not required.

To apply, please submit the following materials, using the online application system at https://employment.kenyon.edu/ : (1) a cover letter, detailing teaching approaches and experience as well as research interests; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) graduate transcripts; and (4) three letters of recommendation, at least one of which addresses the candidate’s teaching abilities. Inquiries may be directed to April Farmer, Administrative Assistant for Classics, at farmera@kenyon.edu or (740) 427-5657. To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by November 1, 2010. Interviews will be conducted at the annual meeting of the APA in San Antonio, January 6-9, 2011.
