KENYON COLLEGE – GAMBIER, OH

Kenyon College invites applications for a definite tenure-track position in the Department of Classics at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2013.

The successful candidate must be qualified to teach both Greek and Latin at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. In addition, we seek a colleague with a strong interest in teaching our established courses in translation, especially in myth and literature, and in developing new courses that complement them. A readiness to teach courses that bridge Classics and other disciplines is welcome. The course load is 3-2. Candidates should have a well-defined research agenda in Greek or Latin literature and a commitment to participating broadly in the life of a liberal arts college. The Ph.D. must be in hand by June, 2013.

To apply, please submit the following materials, using the online application system at https://employment.kenyon.edu: (1) a cover letter, detailing teaching approaches and experience as well as research interests; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) graduate transcripts; and (4) three letters of recommendation, at least one of which addresses the candidate’s teaching abilities. All materials must be submitted online; hard copies will not be accepted. Inquiries may be directed to April Farmer, Administrative Assistant for Classics, at farmera@kenyon.edu or (740) 427-5657. To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by November 1, 2012. Interviews will be conducted at the annual meeting of the APA in Seattle, January 3-6, 2013, and finalists will be invited to campus early in the spring semester.

Kenyon College offers competitive salaries, a one-semester research leave after a successful pre-tenure review, and an excellent benefits package that includes provisions for a spouse or domestic partner and for dependents. An Equal Opportunity Employer, Kenyon welcomes diversity and encourages the applications of women and minority candidates.
