Professor of Greek Language and Literature - Department of Classics. Applications are invited for the post of Professor of Greek Language and Literature, which will become available upon the retirement of Professor Michael Silk. The successful applicant will be expected to take up the post on 1 September 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Applications will be considered from candidates with an established international scholarly reputation. The holder of the Chair will have a proven research record in any aspect of ancient Greek language and literature. S/he will have the ability to provide leadership both within a strong and successful 5* department, and in the London and UK Classics establishment more generally. S/he will consolidate and promote our academic and non-academic collaboration with other institutions, lead applications for external funding, and attract graduate students. S/he will be willing to teach at all levels of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum, and will be active in the development of new courses and course-components. S/he will undertake administrative duties as required by the Head of Department, and will be committed to assuming senior responsibility at Departmental and School level.

The appointment will be made on the Professorial salary scale.
