Lawrence Fellowships in the Liberal Arts and Sciences are postdoctoral positions for recent Ph.D. recipients who seek to develop a record of excellence in teaching and research in a liberal arts college setting (www.lawrence.edu/dept/fellows). These full-time appointments are for two years, with a reduced course load to provide time for research and writing. Fellows also participate in a faculty development program that fosters excellence in teaching and scholarship. Lawrence University encourages Fellows to engage in tutorials and research projects with its undergraduates and to participate in teaching and research collaborations with members of the faculty. Fellowships carry a stipend of $35,000 per annum, plus benefits, and a $2,500 annual fund to support research, travel, and other initiatives.

The Department of Classics invites applications from generalists prepared to teach Greek, Latin and Classical Civilization courses on all undergraduate levels. Applicants should have received the Ph.D. by August 2007.

The Department of Classics at Lawrence University invites applications for an approved full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor, to begin September, 2007. Salary and benefits are competitive. Applicants must have the Ph.D. in hand by September 1, 2007, and should demonstrate proven excellence in teaching as well as a firm commitment to an ongoing program of scholarship. The department seeks a philologist with research and teaching interests in Greek or Latin literature, but will consider applications from specialists in other fields including classical linguistics, Greek and Roman Religion, and ancient philosophy. Teaching responsibilities include Latin and Greek language and literature at all levels, as well a courses in classical civilization. Regular participation is also expected in interdisciplinary programs such as Freshman Studies, a seminar course required of all first-year students.
