The Classics Department at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for an Academic Year Adjunct Lecturer (one-year, non-tenure track) in Roman culture and literature. Courses may include undergraduate reading courses in Latin and Greek, a two-quarter first-year humanities core course (Cultures and Ideas), and a Roman Civilization course that satisfies the university’s advanced writing core requirement. Specific courses will be chosen according to the academic qualifications of the individual and programmatic need. The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of seven courses, with at least one course in each quarter (fall, winter, and spring).

Applicants should have a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Classics or a closely-related field. Applicants who are ABD or possess a Master’s degree, accompanied by commensurate academic experience in Roman culture and Latin philology or a closely-related field (5-7 years of college or professional teaching) will be considered. The successful candidate may need to teach either hybrid or online courses, depending on the public health situation and university guidelines. Salary will be based on number of courses taught and years of teaching experience; benefits eligible. This position starts September 1, 2021.
