Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Teaching and Research) in Classical Literature (Greek and/or Latin)

University of Manchester

Manchester, UK

£39,992 - £60,410 per annum dependent on experience

Permanent from 1 September 2018

Ref: HUM-11927

The University of Manchester seeks to appoint a permanent Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (teaching and research) in Classical Literature, tenable from 1 September 2018.

This position is designed to cover teaching, administration, and related duties in classical literature and cognate subjects, and to make a significant contribution to the research profile of the Department. The post-holder will be expected also to contribute also to the teaching of classical languages and culture more widely.

You will have a PhD or equivalent in hand (before the interview) in Classics or a closely related discipline. The ability to contribute to the teaching of Greek or Latin language is essential, as is the ability to contribute to teaching in classical culture more widely; the ability to contribute also to the second classical language will be an advantage.

You will also show at least the beginnings of a strong, international publications record, and very clear and specific promise of its further development. You will have a similar track-record of applying for research funding and of developing collaborative projects with colleagues locally and internationally. Candidates will be expected, in their letters of application and (if shortlisted) at interview, to explain how they expect their research to develop in the future, and how their specialised interests would strengthen or complement the existing research strengths of the Department.
