The Department of Classics and Archaeology of Loyola Marymount University invites applications for a full-time, entry-level, tenure-track position for a Latinist/Archaeologist (approx. 2/3 of courses would fall under the Latinist role). Teaching responsibilities include all levels of Latin language and literature, elementary and intermediate Greek language, and typically one course per semester in Archaeology. Fields of specialization are open; preference will be given to a candidate with solid Latin credentials as well as a background in Greco-Roman and Mediterranean material culture, with an ability to teach one or more courses involving artifacts, art, architecture, and/or the art and archaeology of Rome, Greece or other ancient cities or complexes. Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate and teach cultural awareness of the connections between peoples of the ancient classical world in Europe, Africa and Asia in order to broaden our students’ awareness of the interactions of the Classical traditions beyond Greece and Italy.
A Ph.D. is required.
