MARY WASHINGTON COLLEGE (2 Positions) - FREDERICKSBURG, VA
The Department of Classics, Philosophy, and Religion at Mary Washington College invites applications for two positions in Classics, both beginning August 2000.

  1. A tenure-track assistant professorship. Applicants must have the Ph.D. in hand by June 2000 and evidence of excellence in teaching. Strong, growing department in a selective liberal arts college seeks a colleague with broad interests and preparation in Latin language and literature who is prepared to teach a 4/4 load, to sustain active research, and to complement the department's existing strengths in archaeology, Greek philosophy and ancient religion. Applicants must be able to teach all levels of both Greek and Latin, and should be interested in teaching courses in translation on such topics as classical civilization, classical mythology in art and literature, Greek tragedy, ancient epic, ancient comedy, and women in antiquity. Candidates with research and teaching interests in one or more of the following are especially welcome: Latin authors, Roman law, and Roman philosophical thought.   2. A possible one-year position. Same qualifications and teaching duties as above, research interests open. Send letter of application, graduate school transcripts, vita, three letters of recommendation, a sample of scholarly writing, and a statement of availability for interview at the Dallas APA meeting, to be received by November 29, 1999 by 5:00 p.m. Postmarks will not be honored.
