The Wallace Curatorship of Egyptology is a small, independent two-person office/department devoted to the research and publication of the Metropolitan Museum's Egyptian collections and archives. Its activities center on the material culture of Egypt; current projects are mirrors, decorated vessels, MMA Assasif excavations, and composite sculpture. Publication may take the form of electronic databases; therefore advanced computer skills are essential. Current networked PC programs are Windows 2000, Outlook 2000, Access, Filemaker Pro and Excel; Citation 8 is used for bibliography.

Administrative responsibilities are related to the publications program: they include departmental budget planning and management, departmental purchasing and accounting, and contacts with various resource departments in the Museum. The position demands a flexible, highly organized, detail-oriented, articulate individual sensitive to confidentiality.

The position has been approved for 28 hours/week on a part-time basis. Salary is hourly, and health insurance is available after one year's employment. Experience living in a large city and work in a large institution is helpful. Preferable commitment of two years.
