The Department of Classics has a definite one-year position for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor (ABD), beginning September 2004. Candidates should be generalists, with a focus in Latin and/or Greek literature. The successful candidate will teach epic poetry in translation, beginning and advanced Greek and Latin, and one other lecture course in translation (with a preference for tragedy) that will include instruction in writing English. Excellence in undergraduate teaching is essential. Application materials must include a letter with a statement of teaching interests, curriculum vitae, graduate transcript (for candidates without teaching experience outside their PhD program), and three current letters of recommendation, at least two of which must speak to teaching ability; a short (no more than thirty pages) sample of scholarly work is optional.
