MILLSAPS COLLEGE – JACKSON, MS
The Classical Studies Department at Millsaps College seeks a broadly trained Hellenist for a definite, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Specialization is open to any area of archaic or classical Greek literature, but preference will be given to Greek prose. The PhD must be completed at the time of appointment, August 1, 2011.
The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for scholarly excellence, effective language instruction and commitment to teaching at a liberal arts college. The teaching load is six courses per year, including introductory Greek, and intermediate and advanced Greek and Latin courses. The candidate will also regularly teach Greek civilization and Classical Myth, and an interdisciplinary course on the ancient world within our writing-intensive, first-year Core Curriculum. Classical Studies also offers field study in Greece and Italy in alternating years. Candidates should therefore discuss study abroad experience and/or archaeological field work.
