Assistant Professor of Latin Language and Literature. New College of the University of South Florida, an innovative honors college, invites applications for an approved tenure-track position to begin August 2000. Successful applicant will work closely with Hellenist colleague to offer a comprehensive program in Classical studies that will interest a broad spectrum of liberal arts students. Teaching load of four courses per year, plus supervision of tutorials, independent study projects, and senior theses. Teaching responsibilities include all levels of Latin language, Latin literature in the original and in translation, ancient history, and Roman civilization. Candidate should have a strong interest in teaching Latin language and literature, and a research specialization in some area of Latin literary study. Candidates should show evidence of scholarship, demonstrated commitment to language teaching, and an interest in creative interdisciplinary work with other faculty. Ph.D. in hand or dissertation completed by date of appointment. Salary competitive.
