AQUILA THEATER AT THE CENTER FOR ANCIENT STUDIES

The /Ancient Greeks/Modern Lives/ program supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities is seeking a post-doctoral National Humanities Scholar during the 2011-12 academic year (PhD in hand by September 2011). This appointment is on a part-time basis and for one year and is based at Aquila Theatre, Company in Residence at the NYU, Center for Ancient Studies and appointed as a visiting scholar at the Center. /Ancient Greeks/Modern Lives: Poetry-Drama-Dialogue /is a major national public program being presented at 100 sites over three years in partnership with Aquila Theatre, the NYU Center for Ancient Studies, the American Philological Association, the Urban Libraries Council, the Center for Hellenic Studies. The scholar will travel to several American program sites and conduct public lectures and guide public discussions, assist in coordinating programming with the APA program scholars, assist on preparing educational and scholarly materials including a special edition of Classical World, conferences and seminars and work closely with Aquila Theatre on artistic programming and development.

The ideal candidate will be someone with a love of ancient drama/literature and a passion for bringing the classics to a wider public audience. The position will be based at Aquila Theatre at NYU and will receive a fellowship of $20,000 plus benefits.
