NEW YORK UNIVERSITY (CLASSICS) –NEW YORK, NY (Two Positions)
The Classics Department at New York University has been authorized to conduct two searches. In both positions we intend to hire at the level of Associate or possibly Full Professor. The two positions are as follows:

POSITION ONE: Greek Drama, with a strong interest in performance. In addition to teaching the usual broad range of courses offered by the department (courses in the original and in translation, undergraduate and graduate), the person chosen will serve as co-director of a new MA/MFA Program in Classics and Classical Theater together with the Artistic Director of NYU's resident drama company, the Aquila Theatre Company.

POSITION TWO: Roman Literature. For this position, we seek a candidate whose scholarship makes productive connections between literature and culture. We also particularly welcome persons capable of forging links with other departments. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate teaching competence over a broad range of courses within Classics on all levels and to participate in the undergraduate core curriculum.

NEW YORK UNIVERSITY (CLASSICS & RELIGIOUS STUDIES) –NEW YORK, NY
The Religious Studies Program and the Classics Department of the Faculty of Arts and Science at New York University are seeking to fill a joint position starting September 1, 2005, subject to budgetary and administrative approval. The position will be tenure-track at the assistant professor level. The position will focus on Early Christianity and the Reception of Classical Antiquity in the Near East.

We seek a candidate with training in classics and the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate classes in Latin and Greek literature; acquaintance with non-Classical literary traditions a plus (Second Temple Jewish, Rabbinic, Syriac, Persian, Armenian, etc.). The candidate should be prepared to teach Theory and Methods in the Study of Religion, as well as three other courses per year, one of which will usually be at the graduate level. Duties will also include student advising and participation in program and departmental service. Candidates must have their Ph.D. in hand and interviews will be conducted on campus.
