UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA – GAINESVILLE, FL

The Classics Department at the University of Florida (Gainesville) invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor of Classics. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Classics (or closely related field) in hand or awarded at the latest by the end of June 2005. Applications from candidates with some experience already at the assistant professor or equivalent levels will be especially welcome.

Assignment: (a) Research: the successful candidate will need to provide evidence of a program of original research and publication. (b) Teaching: Latin and Greek on all levels from beginning undergraduate to graduate; undergraduate lecture courses in classical civilization and literature; normally, two courses per semester. (c) Service: typical departmental activities; e.g., supervising teaching assistants, library liaison, etc.

Salary: $48,000 - $58,000 for a nine-month appointment, to begin in August 2005. The upper salary level of appointment would be reserved for a particularly outstanding candidate.
