Non-tenure track appointment, University of Maryland, College Park, 2018-19

The Department of Classics at the University of Maryland, College Park, invites applications for a one-year, full-time position, non-tenure-track (rank open), to begin Fall 2018, possibly renewable for an additional year. The position requires a PhD in Classics at the time of appointment.

The position is for a Latinist, preferably with research interests in poetry and/or archaic Latin. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a total of five courses during the academic year 2018-19 and should be able to teach any of the following: Beginning (intensive) and intermediate Latin, Roman elegy, and advanced courses in English translation on topics such as (for example) Greco-Roman mythology, ancient slavery, Roman religion, women in classical antiquity, or classical reception. Familiarity with the pedagogy of Latin is desirable, as is prior university teaching experience and experience in mentoring and advising graduate students.
