Northwestern University invites applications for a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in ancient or early medieval Mediterranean studies for a two-year period beginning 1 September 2012. Research expertise may lie with visual or material culture, archaeological fieldwork, or text-based scholarship, but must address interaction with the Middle East or North Africa and should demonstrate an interdisciplinary character. The successful candidate will teach two courses per year in the Department of Classics or appropriate affiliated departments or programs (Art History; Asian and Middle East Studies) and will be housed with the Department of Classics. A completed application must include the following documents: letter of application, c.v., sample of scholarly writing (15 pages maximum), brief statement of proposed research for the fellowship period, short description of teaching experience, and 3 letters of reference (one addressing teaching ability).
