  1. The Department of Greek and Latin is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in modern Greek literature and culture, beginning September 2000. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or be able to assure its completion by August 30, 2000. Promise in teaching and scholarship is essential, and evidence of accomplishment in both is desirable. Teaching responsibilities will include a variety of undergraduate courses in language, literature, and culture, as well as graduate courses. The successful candidate will be expected to complement the existing strengths of the Modern Greek Program. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is required: diaspora studies, comparative literature, folklore, critical theory, or cultural studies. The deadline for receipt of completed applications (including dossier, three letters of recommendation, and a writing sample of 25-40 pages) is January 5, 2000. The Department of Greek and Latin and the Mershon Center of the Ohio State University seek to appoint a tenured full professor of Greek history with an interest in problems of international security, broadly construed. This person would be appointed jointly with the Mershon Center to an endowed professorship and would act as a bridge between the community of scholars who work on the ancient world and those who address contemporary problems of security, democratization, and development.
