ANCIENT HISTORY. Ohio University (AA/EOE). Primary emphasis on Greece and Rome, plus competence in Eqypt and Near East. Ability to meet Ancient History instructional needs of BOTH History and Classics departments in courses ranging from first-year undergraduate to MA levels and including the teaching of classical historians, Roman and/or Greek, in the original tongue(s). Two courses per quarter. Roman and/or Greek research and publication focus. Tenure-track, in History department. Starting date of September 1999. PhD by 1 July 1999 a firm requirement. The Women's Studies Program at Ohio University invites applications for a full-time director to begin fall 1999. The position will be tenured and is open at the associate-professor or full-professor rank for a nine-month contract. Preference will be given to scholars trained in women's studies. We seek candidates in the humanities; social sciences will be considered. The applicants should have distinguished scholarly records, evidence of excellence in teaching, and previous administrative experience in women's studies. Salary is dependent on experience and rank. Primary responsibilities are to provide leadership for the program, establish policy with affiliate faculty, develop courses, and oversee pedagogy initiatives. The director will teach at least one women's studies course and one graduate or senior-level seminar in her home department each year. Experience with extramural grant writing is highly desirable. In place for more than twenty years, Ohio University's Women's Studies Program awards graduate and undergraduate certificates and enjoys the support of twenty affiliate faculty members in twelve cooperating departments. The program is supported by a full-time associate director and a three-quarters secretarial position. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
