POSITION ONE: Ancient History. Ohio University (AA/EOE). Primary emphasis on Greece and Rome, plus competence in Egypt and Near East. Ability to meet Ancient History instructional needs of both History and Classics departments in courses ranging from first-year undergraduate to MA levels and including the teaching of classical historians, Roman and/or Greek, in the original tongue(s). Two courses per quarter. Roman and/or Greek research and publication focus. Tenure-track in History department. Starting date of September 2002. Ph.D. by July 1, 2002 a firm requirement. Appointment at assistant professor rank, to be held in both History and Classics. Salary competitive. Interviewing selected applicants at APA convention and AHA if needed. POSITION TWO: The Department of Classics at Ohio University announces a position (three-year term maximum) for a Classics generalist at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting Sept. 2002. Candidates should have Ph.D. in hand. The position entails teaching nine courses on the quarter system, including Latin at all undergraduate levels and Classics in translation courses including etymology. Salary is negotiable. ANCIENT HISTORIAN. The Departments of History and Classics at Ohio University invite applications for a full-time visiting position for the academic year 2001-02. Ph.D. is preferred but is not mandatory. Responsibilities will include teaching two undergraduate courses each quarter. Four of the six courses will be taught in the Dept. of History and include an ancient world survey course and more specialized surveys on ancient Greece and Rome. The two courses in the Dept. of Classics may be Latin or Greek language courses or classics in translation.
