The Penn State Department of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies and the Jewish Studies Program seeks applicants for an open-rank, tenure-track appointment in Judaism of the Hellenistic and Roman worlds. This appointment, divided between the Department of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies and the Jewish Studies Program, will begin in August, 2013. Applications are welcome from candidates with active research interests in any area of this field, including, but not limited to, history, religion, literature, archeology, and language. Candidates must have the ability to teach courses in a source language (Hebrew, Greek, or Latin). The department embraces the entire Mediterranean world in antiquity within its purview and therefore welcomes candidates who can contribute to dialogue across the fields of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies. The successful applicant should also demonstrate an active research agenda, and be able to contribute immediately to both graduate and undergraduate teaching in the department. Ability to teach lower-level courses is essential. Requirements include Ph.D. completed by July, 2013, teaching experience, and evidence of scholarly publication.
