The College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the Jewish Studies Program, to be filled at a tenured faculty rank, preferably professor, effective July 1, 2003 or sooner if feasible. Applicants should have scholarly and research credentials commensurate with such rank at major institutions, as well as administrative experience or evidence of administrative potential. Area of specialization may be in any field pertaining to Jewish studies; knowledge of Hebrew will be an advantage. Jewish Studies at Penn State is an active and growing interdisciplinary program, with faculty having joint appointments in any of several departments. The Director will report to the Dean of the College and will hold a joint appointment, with his/her tenure home in an academic department. The Director will have administrative responsibilities including management of the Program's budget, direction of the curriculum (including the undergraduate major and minor, and cross-listed graduate courses), alumni relations, and relations with pertinent departments. CLASSICS & ANCIENT MEDITERRANEAN STUDIES
The Department of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies at the Pennsylvania State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track appointment in Greek literature at the assistant professor level, beginning August 2003. Area of specialization is open, but some preference will be given to candidates who work on Homer or Hesiod. Primary teaching responsibilities include Greek language and literature at all levels and large lecture courses on Greek mythology and civilization. The department embraces the entire Mediterranean world in antiquity within its purview and therefore welcomes candidates who can contribute to dialogue across the fields of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (the department's Web page can be found at http://www3.la.psu.edu/cams/). Familiarity with one or more of the ancient languages of the Near East (e.g. Hebrew, or Hittite) would also be considered an asset. Requirements include Ph.D. in hand by the time of the appointment, teaching experience, and evidence of scholarly publication(s).
