We seek a creative individual to serve as the liaison to the Department of Classical Studies and as the subject specialist librarian for Classical Studies and Modern Greek. Embedded within the Classics Department, the Librarian for Classical Studies will build deep relationships and actively engage with the faculty, students, and staff in this area. The Department of Classical Studies is internationally renowned for its scholarly excellence and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Archaeology, Classical Civilization, and Ancient Greek, Modern Greek, and Latin Language and Literature. Faculty and students work closely with the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology and the University Library’s Papyrology Collection, and the department co-sponsors programs in Classical Art & Archaeology and Greek & Roman History, along with participating in the Program in Ancient Philosophy.We invite applications from candidates with a passion for supporting and enhancing the instructional and research activities of our faculty and students. Responsibilities focus on engagement and collaboration with the academic community to develop high impact collections, programs, and services. This position may also include liaison and collection responsibilities for the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures, if the successful candidate possesses the requisite German-language knowledge.

Required Qualifications

ALA-accredited master's degree or equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience.

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Classical Studies, or equivalent degree in a related discipline combined with a deep understanding of the issues and practices associated with research in this field.

Working knowledge of Ancient Greek and Classical Latin.

Bibliographic knowledge of Modern Greek or the willingness to develop skills in this area.

Demonstrated commitment to providing responsive public service, such as subject reference and research consultation, course-integrated instruction, liaison and outreach, and engaged learning.

Understands and values diversity and the importance of inclusion as demonstrated through a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization.
Desired Qualifications

Working knowledge of other Western European languages.

Working knowledge of German; familiarity with German cultural history, politics, and/or literature.

Familiarity with and experience responding to the trends and issues related to research in Classical studies and Modern Greek and the evolving scholarly communication landscape.
