Carleton College invites applications for a one-year position in the Department of Classics beginning September 1, 2017. We are seeking an entry-level teacher/scholar in the area of Mediterranean archaeology. Ph.D. is required by time of appointment. Responsibilities include teaching Latin and Greek at the beginning and intermediate levels, courses in Mediterranean archaeology, and co-teaching the Archaeology Concentration capstone course (ARCN 395 - Archaeology: Science, Nationalism, Ethics, and Cultural Property). This will be a full year appointment, eligible for benefits.

The Department of the Classics at Colgate University invites applications for two one-year positions at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning fall semester 2017. The department seeks applicants experienced in the teaching of Latin and Greek at all levels; experience with courses on ancient civilization and/or literature in translation is also desirable. Completion of Ph.D.

The Departments of Religious Studies, Classics, and History, and the Programs in Judaic Studies and Early Cultures, invite applications for an International Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the area of the culture and ideology of writing in the ancient Mediterranean. Specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates who employ the digital humanities in their research; applicants from outside North America are especially encouraged to apply.

The Department of Classical Studies invites applications for a one-year, full-time, visiting appointment in Latin literature at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in July 2017. We seek a specialist in Latin poetry or Roman drama, their reception in the modern world, and classical reception or performance theory. The candidate should be able to offer courses in Latin at all levels, along with courses in classical civilization related to their literary interests.

The Program in Hellenic Studies at Columbia University invites applications for the position of a senior lecturer or lecturer in Modern Greek language and culture, to begin July 1, 2017. Initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal thereafter. The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Discipline in Modern Greek in the Classics Department.

The Department of Classics at Hillsdale College is seeking applications for a full time two-year, non-renewable visiting assistant position (pending approval of funds) beginning the Fall semester 2017. Evidence of a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship is a must. Teaching responsibilities will include language instruction in Greek and Latin from the introductory to the advanced levels as well as survey courses in translation on Greek and Roman civilization. All classes are at the undergraduate level.

The University of Cincinnati Classics Department offers two types of visiting fellowships for study and research in the fields of philology, history, or archaeology. Apart from residence in Cincinnati for the term of the relevant fellowship, the only obligation of participants in either program is to pursue their own research.

The Department of Classics at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Latin literature to commence in August of 2017 for a period of one year renewable up to two additional one-year periods. Conferral of Ph.D. by June 30, 2017 is required.

The Department of Classics at Union College invites applications for a two-year appointment at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor that will begin in September 2017. We invite applications from specialists in the history of the ancient Mediterranean world. We look for evidence of a strong interest in making interdisciplinary contributions to the curriculum (examples include, but are not limited to, the ancient economy, ancient technology and science, digital humanities, gender, sexuality, and women’s studies, religion).
