Pomona College invites applications for a joint tenure-track position in Classics and History, to begin in the academic year 2004-05. The successful candidate will serve as a member of the Department of Classics and the Department of History. The Department of Classics is part of the intercollegiate Classics program of the Claremont Colleges, which consists of five full-time and two part-time positions and draws on faculty in allied disciplines. The Pomona College History Department, made up of eleven full-time positions, offers a curriculum that emphasizes cultural diversity and cross-cultural connections.

Candidates should be specialists in ancient history who have an excellent command of both Greek and Latin languages and a breadth of knowledge in Greek and Roman literature. Teaching responsibilities include courses in Greek and Latin languages and literature as well as courses in Greek and Roman History, in particular a survey of the ancient Mediterranean. An additional interest in ancient civilizations other than Greece and Rome is especially desirable. Ph.D. preferred; ABD's who will complete their dissertation by September 2004 may be considered.
