Assistant Professor of Classics. This new tenure-track position is a definite appointment which will begin in fall semester 2007. We seek a broadly trained Classicist, well versed in both Latin and Greek languages and literatures, who is a specialist in Latin literature. Our department is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and candidates should have ability and interest in teaching Latin and Greek at all undergraduate levels as well as courses in literature in translation and Roman civilization. We are particularly interested in applicants whose specialty is either Latin prose or Republican literature. Candidates whose research and/or teaching has a disciplinary affinity with some field outside of Classics, such as (but not limited to) Comparative Literature or Gender Studies, are encouraged to describe this aspect of their work in their application. The successful candidate will play an active role in promoting the Department's involvement with interdisciplinary links between Classics and other fields at Pomona College and the Claremont Colleges. The Pomona Classics Department cooperates with Classicists at the other Claremont Colleges to form an intercollegiate program consisting of seven Classicists and numerous affiliated faculty. Teaching load: 2/2. Ph.D. in hand or expected by September 2007.
