The Department of Classics and the Program in Hellenic Studies at Princeton University are re-opening the open-rank search for an appointment in the Hellenic tradition. The successful candidate will have received a Ph.D. in Classics or a related field and have demonstrated expertise in one of the following two areas: Greek language, literature, and culture of later antiquity and Byzantium; or the later reception of the Hellenic tradition, including modern Greek literature and culture. The position will be available starting 1 September 2002. Applicants should be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in ancient Greek language and literature, Greek literature in translation, and one of the areas specified above. POSITION TWO: The Department of Classics at Princeton University offers a tenure-track assistant professorship in ancient history: the preferred area of specialization is the Greek world in any period between Alexander and Constantine; expertise in epigraphy, papyrology, or material culture will be an advantage. Appointment will begin 1 September 2002, by which time the successful candidate should have completed the Ph.D. Applicants should be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in ancient history, Greek and Latin language, and classical literature in translation.
