The Department of Classics at Queen’s University invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in Greek archaeology or Greek history. Candidates with an interest in Greek epigraphy are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate should have a completed Ph.D. by the time of taking up the appointment. The appointee will also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and should expect to teach a range of courses beyond the specialty at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applications should include a full curriculum vitae, a plan of research, a statement of teaching philosophy, and samples of writing. The Department of Classics, Queen's University at Kingston, Canada ( www.queensu.ca/classics), invites applications from outstanding scholars for a faculty appointment under the Queen's National Scholars Program. Qualified Greek archaeologists will be will be given priority, but specialists in Greek material culture broadly defined and Greek historians, particularly with research interests in epigraphy and/or numismatics, are also encouraged to apply. The main criterion of interest to the selection committee is academic excellence regardless of other considerations. Preference will be given to scholars in the early- or mid-career stages. Appointments under this special program are normally tenure-track at the assistant or associate professor level. These appointments are to enrich teaching and research in newly developing fields of knowledge as well as traditional disciplines. Another objective is to provide an opportunity to improve the proportion of women and members of designated equity groups on faculty. Each completed application should include a curriculum vitae, a statement of current and prospective research interests and a statement regarding teaching experience or potential. Applicants should also supply information concerning any interruptions in their academic careers and other factors which may have affected their capacity to complete scholarly work.
