RHODES COLLEGE –MEMPHIS, TN (Two Positions)
POSITION ONE: Art Historian. This tenure-track appointment seeks a promising scholar for a leadership role in the area of ancient and classical art. Course load is three classes per semester, two in ancient and classical art, including architecture and archaeology, one as part of the college?s core Humanities program. Secondary teaching interests in areas not currently covered within the department are highly desirable (especially non-western art). Position will stress interdisciplinary activities with History, Greek and Roman Studies, Archaeology, and related disciplines. Successful candidate must demonstrate potential for scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching at a small liberal arts college. Candidates must also be willing to embrace digital media as primary college image resource. For this position a terminal degree in philology is not sufficient for hire; however, interdisciplinary degrees will be considered. POSITION TWO: Classicist-Ancient Historian. The Department of Greek and Roman Studies invites applications from candidates who specialize in ancient history for a definite, annually renewable, three-year term appointment in Greek and Roman Studies to begin in August 2005. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in ancient Greek and Latin at all levels as well as courses on the history, literature, and society of ancient Greece and Rome. Some familiarity with other ancient Mediterranean cultures and experience in the study of material culture is particularly welcome. The holder of this position will also contribute to Rhodes' humanities program, "The Search for Values in the Light of Western History and Religion."
