Director, Search for Values in the Light of Western History and Religion Founded in 1848, Rhodes College is a highly selective, private, coeducational, residential, undergraduate college, located in Memphis, Tennessee. The College seeks a Director for its core three course sequence in interdisciplinary humanities, The Search for Values in Light of Western History and Religion, beginning fall 2007. In this sequence, students examine original documents from the history and literature of the Israelites, Greeks, Romans, and early Christians and trace the development of the biblical and classical heritage up to the modern period. It currently draws faculty from ten departments, and over fifty percent of students participate.The Director serves a three year term with the possibility of renewal, and s/he will be responsible for many of the duties of a department head including coordinating activities among the participating faculty. The teaching load will be four courses per year divided between the Search program and the department of disciplinary training. This appointment will include tenure in an existing department at the College.The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to interdisciplinary teaching, evidence of ongoing scholarship, and a commitment to collaborative administrative leadership. We are particularly interested in persons in the disciplines of political science or philosophy, but individuals in any potential contributing discipline are encouraged to apply.
