POSITION ONE: The Humanities Research Center at Rice University hosts up to 3 interdisciplinary visiting professors for one semester each year. Fellows teach one humanities course, participate in special symposia, and take part in an informal lecture series. Applicants must hold a tenured/tenure-track position and have received the PhD no later than June 2009. Semester salaries range upwards of $40K, depending on rank. POSITION TWO: Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow: Rice University’s Humanities Research Center awards 3 two-year Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships supporting research projects in the humanities, including, but not limited to, history, philosophy, languages, literature, linguistics, religious studies, art history, the arts and interdisciplinary fields. Fellows receive $40,000 salary, benefits, and a research/relocation allowance. Fellows teach two humanities courses per year, participate in the intellectual life of the center, and progress in their research. POSITION THREE Mellon-Sawyer Energy Humanities Postdoctoral Fellow: Rice University’s Humanities Research Center seeks a one-year postdoctoral fellow to initiate projects in energy and participate in the Mellon-Sawyer seminar, “Cultures of Energy: Global Economies and Local Communities.” Applicants whose research interests intersect with the humanistic and scientific study of energy and the environment may come from humanistic disciplines including, but not limited to, anthropology, history, literature, philosophy, religious studies, art history and the arts. The fellow takes part in a faculty working group, helps organize a speakers series, and teaches a new undergraduate course on humanities and energy.
