ROANOKE COLLEGE – SALEM, VA
Jordan Fellowship in the Humanities. The Donald L. Jordan Endowment for the Humanities invites applications for a nine to twelve month fellowship in residence at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. For the 2008-2009 academic year, the Jordan Endowment will consider applicants whose research field is the ancient world; geographic area is open, although those who specialize in literature, art history, archaeology, or anthropology are especially encouraged to apply. The Jordan Fellow is expected to devote the majority of the year to a research project that will culminate in a significant scholarly work. In addition, the Jordan Fellow will teach one undergraduate course that will complement the college's current offerings, lead an informal series of faculty discussions within his or her research area, and give one public lecture. Any publications resulting from work accomplished during this fellowship must acknowledge the support of the D. L. Jordan Endowment for the Humanities and Roanoke College in print.

The fellowship award will range from $30,000–$50,000. Total compensation (institutional and external support) for the year will not exceed the fellow's salary for that academic year. The Jordan Fellow will be provided office space, a computer, and full library privileges. Housing adjacent to campus is also available at a subsidized rate. Review of completed applications will begin October 12, 2007, but applications will be accepted until the fellowship is granted. A decision will be announced by early spring 2008.

Applicants must have received their Ph.D. by September 2005 and have had no supported leave since the 2004-2005 academic year. A complete application includes all of the following:
