The Department of Classics and Humanities, San Diego State University, is seeking applicants for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Classics, available in fall 1999. Preferred qualifications include: 1) PhD in Classics, 2) successful classroom experience in Greek and Latin and an ability to teach students of diverse cultural backgrounds, 3) published scholarship, and 4) demonstrated interdisciplinary teaching and research interests that would qualify the candidate to teach courses in other humanities disciplines or in interdisciplinary programs. Commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship essential. First-year courses will include either Elementary Greek or Elementary Latin or both and one or two nonlanguage Classics courses.
