SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY - SANTA CLARA, CA
Tenure track position (a joint position between the departments of Philosophy and Classics) in Ancient Philosophy. The successful candidate will be expected to teach lower- and upper-division undergraduate courses in the area of specialization, including one or more translation courses in Classics and the University's Honors Western Culture sequence, as well as Classical and Medieval Philosophy in the Philosophy Department's Western Culture sequence. Candidates must have a command of classical languages to conduct research and advanced undergraduate reading courses.

Stronger candidates will have the ability to teach other courses meeting the University's ethics requirement or in the Philosophy Department's Western Culture sequence (e.g. Early or Late Modern Philosophy). Quarter system, six courses each year: two in Classics, two in Philosophy, two to be determined on the basis of the candidate's training and experience.

Requirements: proven record of teaching excellence; solid evidence of scholarly potential; Ph.D. in hand by September of 2000.
