Scripps College - Claremont, CA
Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Classics - beginning in the 2003-04 Academic year (definite position).

Scripps College, a women's liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a generalist in Classics with a special interest in either Latin or Greek literature. The candidate must be able to teach Latin at all levels (and occasionally Greek) and both Latin and Greek literature in translation. S/he will be expected to develop innovative interdisciplinary courses both for the department and for the Scripps Core Curriculum. The Classics department also contributes courses to Gender and Women's Studies and the Humanities Major. Therefore, a demonstrated interest in literary theory, cultural studies, comparative literature or the Classical tradition is also desirable.

The Scripps College Classics Department is part of the cooperative Claremont Colleges Classics program and offers courses in conjunction with Pomona and Pitzer Colleges.

Appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants must have Ph.D. or be sure of completion by September 2003. Teaching experience is required. Send cover letter, CV and at least three letters of recommendation to: Prof. Ellen Finkelpearl, Chair, Classics Search Committee, Scripps College, 1030 Columbia Ave., Claremont, CA 91711, by November 22, 2002. Interviews will be conducted at the APA Annual Convention in January.
