SCRIPPS COLLEGE -- CLAREMONT, CA
Hartley Burr Alexander Chair in the Humanities. Scripps College, a women's liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications and nominations for Professor of Humanities and the Hartley Burr Alexander Chair in the Humanities. The professorship is a tenure-track senior position open to distinguished scholars with an outstanding record in research and teaching. Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree in any relevant field, such as Anthropology, Art History, Classics, Economics, English Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature, History, Music, Philosophy, Politics, and Psychology or such interdisciplinary fields as area, cultural, or ethnic studies. Scripps is seeking a senior scholar whose research and teaching interests will complement the Scripps College Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities, a three-semester course for all Scripps students that draws on faculty members from fine arts, letters, natural sciences, and social sciences. The Hartley Burr Alexander Chair involves an annual four-course teaching load; the successful candidate will be expected to assume an active role in both the Core Curriculum and the Scripps College Humanities Institute. The appointment to the professorship is an independent tenure-track faculty position; the appointment to the Chair, which includes a research budget, is for an initial ten-year period with the possibility of renewal.

Scripps College is one of seven members of The Claremont Colleges cluster located 35 miles east of Los Angeles.
