August 15 is the final abstract deadline for A Conference on Homer in Sicily, October 5-8 with a Homer-themed post-conference tour October 9-10, 2022

Keynote Speakers: Jenny Strauss Clay (Virginia) and Stamatia Dova (Hellenic College and CHS)

Homeric Thrinacia – our Sicily – is the legendary home of the Cattle of the Sun, the Cyclops, the Laestrygonians, Aeolus, and close neighbor of Skylla and Charybdis. The goal of this conference is to bring scholars from a variety of disciplines to Siracusa to discuss Homer’s epic vision.

At the conclusion of the conference, an optional tour will visit the Cyclops Islands (Acitrezza), cross the Straits of Messina, see the Riace Bronzes, overnight at Skylla (Scilla) on the Calabrian coast, return to Sicily (skirting Charybdis), climb up Mount Etna for a wine tasting and traditional meal, then descend to Catania to visit the Greco-Roman theater and drop people off downtown and at the airport before returning to Siracusa.

More information on the conference and tour are available at this link.
