We hope to see many of you again in Philadelphia next year (2-5 January 2025), and urge you to renew your membership now if you haven’t done so already, as dues rates are scheduled to rise on February 1st. The SCS Board of Directors voted unanimously to change the dues rates at their meeting in Chicago earlier this month. In awareness of the economic challenges our lower-salaried members face, the new dues structure does not raise rates at all, or only by very little, for these members. Instead, the new dues rates structure includes more substantial increases for members at higher salary levels.

Your membership supports the Society’s goals of advancing the field of Classics through advocacy, growth and inclusion, and yet we haven’t raised dues for a decade now. As a result, in real terms, the dues are about 20% lower than they were when they took effect ten years ago. Meanwhile, of course, our actual expenses have increased with inflation. We hope that our members see the necessity of making adjustments to the dues from time to time. Certainly, going forward we expect to reassess the dues more frequently than once every ten years.
