Thanks to a generous grant from the National Italian American Foundation, the Department of Classics at the University of Maryland, College Park, will award the Pellegri Scholar Graduate Fellowship each year over the next five years to a graduate student in recognition of that student's achievement and promise in the study of Latin language and Roman culture. The fellowship includes a $10,000 stipend and releases the student from a semester of teaching. In addition, the fellow will be given the opportunity to serve as teaching assistant for the department's winter course in Italy. The Pellegri Scholar will be expected to engage in research on Latin language and Roman culture as well as to give a presentation on that research at the end of the fellowship year.
