Seton Hall University, Department of Classical Studies, invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level to start Fall, 2010. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Classics, a commitment to undergraduate teaching and learning, and will actively contribute to the growth of our Classical Studies program and the University’s Core Curriculum. Teaching responsibilities will include Greek language and literature at all levels, elementary Latin, Classical literature, civilization, and culture courses in translation, as well as etymology, including scientific terminology. We are looking for an outstanding teacher who will engage undergraduate students in creative and disciplined intellectual challenges, and who is also a promising scholar with an active research agenda. Competitive summer research grants are available, although not guaranteed.

Teaching load is 3/3 for faculty engaged in research or service. Teaching regularly includes introductory courses and an upper level course. Familiarity with the teaching environment of a small private liberal arts college is highly desirable.
