The Department of Classical Studies invites applications for a tenure track position at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level to start Fall 2006. Seton Hall University, founded in 1856, is a Roman Catholic institution affiliated with the archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Classics, a commitment to undergraduate teaching and learning, and will actively contribute to the growth of our Classical Studies program and the University’s new Core Curriculum. Teaching responsibilities will include Greek language and literature at all levels, elementary Latin, Classical literature, civilization and culture courses in translation, as well as etymology, including scientific terminology. We are looking for an outstanding teacher who will engage undergraduate students in creative and disciplined intellectual challenges, and who is also a promising scholar with an active research agenda. Competitive summer research grants are available, although not guaranteed. Teaching load is 3/3 for faculty engaged in research or service. Teaching regularly includes introductory courses and upper level course. Familiarity with the teaching environment of a small private liberal arts college is highly desirable.
