The Department of Classics at Stanford University seeks a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in the field of Latin literature and culture. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree by September 1, 2011. The position entails a four-course teaching load over three academic quarters in language, literature, and civilization classes at all levels, including large lecture courses and smaller seminars. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to conduct independent research and to participate fully in in departmental events, initiatives, and other activities. All qualified Latinists are welcome to apply, though the search committee is especially interested in those whose fields of focus serve to complement existing strengths in the department.

The period of the visiting appointment is September 1, 2011 through August 31, 2012.
