Stanford University announces an Andrew W. Mellon postdoctoral fellowship in classical archaeology, beginning September 1, 1999. The position carries affiliation with the Classics department and limited teaching duties, and the opportunity for scholarly work and intellectual growth. The Ph.D, must be in hand by September 1, 1999, and preferably received within the last seven years. The award carries an annual stipend of $40,050 and may be renewed for a second year. Three letters of reference and application papers for 1999-2000 are due as early as possible and must be postmarked no later than November 13, 1998. This deadline is firm. The Departments of Classics and Philosophy in conjunction with the Program in the History and Philosophy of Science at Stanford University are searching tomake an appointment beginning in AY 1999 2000 at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor for a historian or philosopher of early science, broadly construed to include both ancient science and its transmission and reception in late antiquity through the early Renaissance. Subject area is open, including both biological and mathematical sciences, medicine, and comparative work on western and non-western science. Position is at the assistant professor level.
