Tenure-track position (definite), assistant professor of Classical Studies, to begin Fall 2000. Hellenist with ability to teach all levels of Greek and Latin and courses in Greek Civilization and Mythology. Must have Ph.D. in hand at time of application; two or more years full-time teaching experience strongly desirable. Teaching load 3-4 courses a semester. Should be willing to participate in college-wide First Year Seminars program and Honors Program, and at least one of the college's interdisciplinary minors (Archaeology, Film Studies, Law and Society, Women and Gender Studies). Applicants should also be willing to serve as temporary Chair of Classical Studies in Fall 2000. Sweet Briar College is a four-year college for women (c. 600 students) located in central Virginia. Emphasis is placed on teaching and faculty involvement in student learning both in and outside of the classroom. The Classical Studies Department has two full-time faculty and offers majors in Latin, Greek, and Classical Civilization.
