TEMPLE UNIVERSITY – PHILIDELPHIA, PA
The Department of Greek and Roman Classics invites candidates for a tenure-track position in Classics at the rank of Assistant or Advanced Assistant Professor, starting in 2009-10, to join a thriving and growing program. The Department will consider applicants with specializations in either Roman History or Greek prose authors.

Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and interdisciplinary teaching in a liberal arts context, broad and innovative intellectual interests, outstanding scholarly abilities and an organized plan for sustained research. The successful candidate will be able to teach Greek and Latin at all levels as well as courses in classical civilization both for majors and for students completely unfamiliar with classical antiquity, including in the Department's contribution to Temple's program in General Education (courses in race and ethnicity, sacred space and Greek theater; see http://www.temple.edu/provost/gened/). An ability to engage with other departments (e.g. History, Religion, Women's Studies) will be considered an asset, as would an interest in material culture. Substantial teaching experience is essential, including language instruction. Candidates must be willing to actively engage in mentoring students and plan to be a collegial member of the Department. Further information about the Temple Classics program can be found at http://www.temple.edu/classics.

To assure full consideration, candidates should send a preliminary application (a cover letter with curriculum vitae and three or four letters of recommendation), preferably by email, to Professor Robin Mitchell-Boyask, robin@temple.edu. Paper applications may be sent to Professor Robin Mitchell-Boyask, Department of Greek and Roman Classics, 321 Anderson Hall, 1114 W. Berks St., Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, 19122. Phone: (215) 204-3672. The search committee will consider initial applications beginning on 1 November, and until 15 November. Candidates should not send additional materials unless requested. Preliminary interviews will be held at the Annual Meeting of the APA in Philadelphia during January.
