The Department of Classical Studies at Brandeis University invites applications for a beginning or advanced tenure-track Assistant Professor with a specialty in Latin Language and Literature, to begin in Fall 2018. The successful candidate will teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in Latin language and literature and a variety of courses in ancient Roman culture or literature in translation. Ability to teach Greek is also welcome and desired. We are especially eager to hear from candidates whose teaching interests complement our areas of strength and engage with other disciplines or support Brandeis’ core mission of Social Justice, including courses in material culture, digital humanities, race and gender in the ancient world, and classical receptions.

Candidates should demonstrate excellence or a strong promise of excellence in both research and in teaching. The successful candidate will work with other department members to help reinvigorate and expand our elementary Latin program and to support our thriving Master’s program in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies. A well-rounded candidate will be able to advise undergraduate majors at all levels of their studies, mentor seniors on independent projects covering a wide variety of topics, and serve as a mentor and advisor to graduate students working on Masters papers or theses.

Our full-time teaching load is 4 courses per year (2 courses per semester). A Ph.D. in Classics, Classical Studies, or Latin Language and Literature is required.

Brandeis recognizes that diversity in its student body, staff and faculty is important to its primary mission of providing a quality education. The search committee is therefore particularly interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching and/or service experiences, will increase Brandeis’ reputation for academic excellence and better prepare its students for a pluralistic society.

First consideration will be given to applications received by January 1st, 2018 with a rolling deadline extending to February 1st 2018. Applications, submitted online through AcademicJobsOnline at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/10583, should include:
