UNION COLLEGE – SCHENECTADY, NY (Two Positions)
POSITION ONE: The Department of Classics at Union College seeks to appoint a classicist for a two-year visiting appointment at the rank of assistant professor. This two-year appointment will begin in September 2008. The area of specialization is open, but we seek candidates with strong philological interests as well as a special area of research that could serve as the basis for interdisciplinary contributions to the curriculum more widely (examples include, but are not limited to, ancient technology, art, archaeology, science, women's studies, religion, ecology/environment). Teaching competencies must include ancient Greek and Latin at all undergraduate levels as well as general courses in translation (please let us know in your cover letter what courses in translation you would be especially interested in offering). Ph.D. must be in hand by August 2008. Visiting faculty are fully eligible for travel and research support, and our salaries are competitive. This is a one-year sabbatical replacement that will begin in September 2008. The area of specialization is open.
