UNION COLLEGE – SCHENECTADY, NY
Union College (Schenectady, New York) seeks applicants for the John and Jane Wold Professor of Religious Studies to direct an interdisciplinary program in Religious Studies. The College currently offers a minor in Religious Studies. We seek candidates with a vision for developing an interdisciplinary major. Union is a non-denominational liberal arts college, founded in 1795. We offer substantial support and encouragement for interdisciplinary programs. The area of specialization is open. We will consider applicants from a range of humanities and social science disciplines including, but not confined to, anthropology, classics, history, philosophy, religious studies, and sociology. The committee will look for excellence in scholarship and teaching, as well as demonstrated potential for intellectual leadership in building an interdisciplinary program. Union College seeks an established scholar who, in addition to his or her specialized field of expertise, can offer courses that provide a broad overview of the importance of religion and religious studies within a liberal arts curriculum. Nominations are welcome. The successful candidate will be hired with tenure at the associate/full professor level in the department appropriate to his or her area of expertise.

In addition to a dedicated research fund and endowed program fund for the Wold Professor, the College offers support for faculty research, travel, and teaching initiatives. Union's extensive Terms Abroad program also offers opportunities to take students abroad. Further information about Union College may be found at www.union.edu. We will begin to consider applications on December 1, 2006. For full consideration, applications should be received by January 4, 2007.
