The University of Akron, Interdisciplinary Anthropology Program invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in archaeology with a specialty in Old World civilizations beginning in Fall 2000. The position, contingent on final budgetary approval, requires a broad range of undergraduate teaching, including archaeology, some local field study classes, and human evolution. The position also requires managing an archaeology laboratory and working with student assistants. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in anthropology/archaeology at the time of appointment, teaching experience, an active research agenda, a record of funded research and related publications. The position will be in a newly proposed undergraduate Department of Classical Studies, Anthropology and Archaeology. Anthropology is an interdisciplinary undergraduate research and teaching program with both locally and internationally funded research.   2. Visiting Assistant Professor of Latin. The University of Akron invites applications for an approved visiting assistant professor in the Department of Classics. The department offers a wide range of courses in the cultures of the Ancient Near East, Greece, and Rome in an open enrollment university. Hence we seek a broadly trained classicist able to teach a variety of courses during the academic year 2000/2001, with the possibility of reappointment. We are seeking a specialist in Latin literature with a competence in Greek. Candidacy will be strengthened by the ability to offer a course in Greek Mythology plus one or more of the following areas: Greek and Roman History, etymology, Greek archaology survey, and ancient sports.

    Requirements for the position are: 1. Ph.D.; 2. Promise of excellence in undergraduate teaching; 3. Scholarly promise. Salary willl be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
