UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA – TUSCALOOSA, AL
The University of Alabama seeks a full-time, non-tenure track Latin instructor to begin August 16, 2012. This is a two-year contract with continuation for the second year based on satisfactory performance. The appointment may be renewed for a second, two-year period based on performance and the availability of funding. M.A. required, but Ph.D. or ABD preferred. In response to rapid and unprecedented growth in the number of students attending the university, we are developing an aggressive and innovative strategy for accommodating more students in lower-level Latin courses. Our goal is to combine classroom instruction with computer-based instruction in a unique way that will both improve learning outcomes and reach a larger audience. The new instructor will work with Classics faculty members, other instructors, and technology experts on campus to spearhead the development of the new program. Therefore, the successful candidate will have appropriate expertise in the use of computer technology. Additional summer stipend is possible during the implementation phase of the project. Applications will be considered beginning April 15, 2012 until position is filled. Complete the online application at http://facultyjobs.ua.edu. Attach a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and teaching evaluations. Send three recent letters of recommendation and transcripts to Dr. Kirk Summers, Latin Search Committee, Department of Modern Languages and Classics, The University of Alabama, Box 870246, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0246.
